Living Landscapes Writers Festival
Ideas + Writing on Nature
Saturday 9 – Sunday 10 April 2022
Hart’s Mill Precinct, Mundy Street, Port Adelaide SA
The inaugural Living Landscapes Writers’ Festival brings together nationally and internationally renowned writers and thinkers on nature.
Saturday 2-3pm: Writing the Changing Landscape
Inga Simpson, Ali Cobby Eckermann, Jill Jones and Dominic Guerrera (Chair)
With the world facing catastrophic changes to climate, population, and the ongoing battle with pollution, how does that affect us as creatives and how do we address it through our work in ways our readers will understand so they too take up the battle cry to do better. To be better.
Sunday 10am-1pm Nature Writing Masterclass
This hands-on nature writing masterclass explores techniques for writing more ecologically. Not just conveying an environmental message, but breaking down barriers between the human and more-than-human worlds, and the limitations of an anthropocentric viewpoint. Through discussion of key examples and a range of written exercises, we’ll cover approaches to immersing the reader in the natural world, shifting perspective, the creative potential of research, engaging readers’ emotions, and the intersection between inner and outer landscapes. Participants will be provided with a short reading beforehand for discussion on the day.

Trail Writing : An Immersion In Imagination and the Natural World
Walk and write your way into this wild landscape with nature writer, Inga Simpson, on one of Australia’s most inspiring tracks.
Cradle Mountain Huts Walk is a six-day walk along the iconic Overland Track, retreating each evening to the comfort of the only private accommodation along the trail.
The rhythm of the trail, and the sensory experience of traversing such powerful landscapes, allows a deep connection with the natural world.
